FAQ for setting up Wish
Lists
How does a Wishpot Wish list work?
Wishpot, with the
Wishpot Button (a small bookmarking tool), lets wish list owners add items from
any site to their wish list. Wishpot also lets wish list owners set up contributions
(where multiple people can contribute to a single item or fund) Wish list
owners can then share their wish lists
(through the wish list URL) with
friends and family, members and non-members alike. Friends and family can then reserve items for
purchase (redirected to the retailer) or contribute to items (re-directed to paypal).
How do I share my wish list with friends and family?
Click on your wish list, copy and paste your wish list URL (located to the left
of the list) into your own websites, invitations, and emails. Your friends and
family can also find your wish list with the people tab. But only those who
arrive from a shared wish list URL or who are your friends on the site will be
able to reserve items, keep reserves a surprise, and see your shipping address.
Can I email my Wish list URL to others through Wishpot?
Yes. Open the list you'd like to share. In the right
hand corner, click on, 'share/email'. Click add recipient and enter the email
addresses of everyone you want to tell about your Wish List (use commas to
separate multiple addresses) and or select one of your Wishpot friends. When
you click "send" they will receive an email with a link to view your
Wish List. Through this link, everyone, including non-members can reserve items
off your list, keep reserves a surprise, and see your shipping address.
If I
want to share my wish list with friends, do they have to first sign up for
Wishpot?
No. Whenever you share a
list with your friends they will be able to view the list even if they are not
yet registered for Wishpot. Anyone you share a wish list URL with will be able
to view and reserve items from off your list! Your list URl is located on
the list page, to the right of the list.
How does someone purchase an item from my wish list?
Friends and Family who arrive from a shared wish list URL or are members of the
site first reserve the items for purchase. (The reserve button is on the right of the item)
Once an item in your wish list is reserved, it appears differently and the individual who reserved the
item is redirected to the retailer’s site for the transaction.
How does someone contribute to an item on my wish list?
Friends and family with a PayPal account can choose to contribute to anything
you’ve enabled contributions for. They click the contribution button located to
the right of the item and then they are redirected to PayPal to for the
transaction.
I like
surprises. Is there a way to hide my reserved items on my Wish list from me?
Yes. A Wishpot friend or
anyone arriving from a shared URL on a Wish list has the option of choosing to
keep the reserve a surprise from the owner of the Wish list. Those reserved
items are visible to everyone (who arrives from a shared URL, or is a Wishpot
member) but the owner of the list. So if you want your reserves to be a
surprise, share your wish list URL (located to the right of your wish list) or
add friends and family as Wishpot friends. This way they will have the option
of keeping your reserved gift a surprise. This feature is only available on
Wish lists.
When I view my Wish list why do I see a different number of
reserved items than someone else viewing my Wish list?
A Wishpot friend or anyone
arriving from a shared URL on a Wish list has the option of choosing to keep
the reserve a surprise from the owner of the list. Those reserved items are
visible to everyone but the owner of the list. This way the surprise isn’t
spoiled for the owner of the list. This feature is popular for birthdays and
holidays.

with.
How does Wishpot make sure I don’t get duplicate gifts?
Anyone who is not a member of Wishpot or does not arrive from a shared wish
list URL is prompted to sign in or sign up before being able to reserve items
for purchase off a wish list. Anyone
member or anyone who arrives from a shared URL can see which items off your
wish list have already been reserved. Once an item is reserved for purchase,
friends or family, receive a confirmation email and are redirected to the
retailer for the transaction.
